Find Indiana Booking Releases by City
Indiana booking releases are filed at the county level, not by city. Residents of any Indiana city access booking records through the county sheriff's office that serves their area. Below are all Indiana cities with populations over 25,000, each with a page showing local jail resources and inmate search tools.
How City Residents Access Indiana Booking Releases
Indiana does not have a city-level jail system. When someone is arrested in a city, they go to the county jail that serves that city. The county sheriff's office maintains all booking records. City police departments make arrests but typically transfer detainees to the county jail for processing and booking. So if you are looking for booking releases in any Indiana city, you are actually searching the county's records.
For large cities like Indianapolis, the process is a bit different. Indianapolis merged city and county government under a system called Unigov. Marion County and Indianapolis function as a combined government. The Marion County Sheriff's Office runs the Adult Detention Center and maintains all booking records for the city at inmateinfo.indy.gov/IML. That tool lets you search by name, booking number, state ID, FBI number, or ICE number, and includes both current and released inmates.
For other cities, use the county sheriff's website for the county where that city sits. Some counties have online inmate search tools you can use from home. Others require a phone call or in-person visit to get booking information. The city pages below include direct links to the county resources that serve each area.
Statewide Tools for Finding Indiana Booking Releases
No matter which city you are searching in, these state resources cover Indiana broadly. The Indiana County Jail Portal at public.indianajail.gov searches multiple counties at once and is the fastest starting point when you are not sure which county has the booking record you need. The portal is free and shows both current and recently released inmates from participating counties.
For people who were sentenced and sent to a state prison rather than staying in a county jail, use the IDOC Offender Locator at offenderlocator.idoc.in.gov. The Indiana Department of Correction runs 18 adult state prisons and keeps its own separate inmate database. County jail and state prison records do not overlap in Indiana.
The Indiana SAVIN service at indianasavin.in.gov sends free automatic alerts when an inmate's status changes. You register with the name of the person you want to track, and SAVIN notifies you when they are booked, released, or transferred anywhere in the Indiana system. This works for both county jails and state prisons.
Note: Cities not listed here fall below the 25,000 population threshold and do not have individual pages on this site. For those areas, visit the county page for the county where that city sits.
